Boston & Maine Railroad Fresh Pond Ice Company 36ft Wooden Reefer Decal 2001 ![]() In the early 1900's a number of the Boston & Maine boxcars were refitted for ice service. They were refitted with a double wall, insulated with sawdust, and refregerator doors. The cars were not fitted with ice hatches since they were not going to be used for the transportation of dairy goods, fresh fruits or vegitables. A number of these cars used specifically for the Fresh Pond Ice company which was serviced out of Brookline, NH. The cars were originally brown with white lettering. Later a number of cars were re-painted white with black lettering. The demand for ice decreased as mechanical refrigeration became more common. The cars were taken out of service and scrapped in the early 1930's after the Ice House burned to the ground. These decals were created using the 1900 / 1907 Boston & Maine Freight Car Lettering book. When available, photographs were also referenced. There are usually several car numbers available. If you order multiple sets of decals of the same car I will do my best to make sure you do not get duplicate road numbers. Extra number sets are included so that you may create your own road numbers. Each set of decals will complete one car and includes a decal placement diagram. Suggested car body: Manufacturer: MDC / Roundhouse Item: HO 36' Billboard Reefer - Undecorated Item number: 3070 Price: $1.95 |
