In the late 1920's the Boston and Maine was trying hard to improve its image. One of the ways it did this was by looking for a fancier herald. This map herald was applied to only a few cars. While it looked great, it was too costly to try and convert the whole fleet over to this logo and it was quicly abandond as a logo for freight service.
