J.D. Driggs Shipsmith New Bedford, Massachusetts. Kit 1089 In 1885 the James Driggs Shipsmith shop was build in New Bedford, MA then moved to Mystic Seaport in 1944. It was a manufactoror of ironwork for the whaling industry since the 19th century. You can now visit the shop at the Mystic Seaport museum in Connecticut and experience hands on what the trade was like. Master shipbuilders George, Clark and Thomas Greenman ran their yard for 52 years and build 94 ships and steamers. Their reputation was unsurpassed in national shipping circles for honest workmanship and superior design.
